Subscription boxes… have you heard of them? Have you ever ordered one? Basically you sign up for a $10/month service and they will mail you a selection of beauty products based on a survey that you fill out on their site.
But is it worth it????
With some slight reservations… I think so… that it’s worth it. Or, at least it’s worth it to have one beauty subscription box. This month I ordered 3 subscription boxes, to see what each was offering, and if the products were items that I would use.
I ordered Birch box, Ipsy and Walmart beauty boxes. Birch box and Ipsy are each a $10/month subscription. Walmart beauty box is a $5/quarterly subscription.
Here is what I got with each order, and what I thought:
Birch Box

Birch box subscription is $10/month for fancy makeup, skincare, etc.
January box cost me $2/week in my envelope (if you are paying for it out of your envelope). I have ordered from them in the past, and have found beauty treasures in several of the boxes… things that normally I would not have tried. It is very exciting to find a Birch box in the mailbox… like a little gift just for me!
Ipsy

$10 January IPSY box subscription.
Ya’ll…. I actually squealed when I opened this box. AND I CLAPPED MY HANDS. This was my first Ipsy box. I just loved everything in it, including the makeup bag. I ordered another box for February, and am looking forward to it more than Valentine’s Day! What? Yes… true story. I do recommend that you check them out, here.
Walmart beauty box

$5 meh?
And…. last but not (really?) least…. the $5 Walmart beauty box, here.
Not surprisingly, after the Ipsy excitement… the Walmart beauty box cannot compare to the glam boxes from Birch or Ipsy. Walmart beauty boxes are their own little thing. But are they worth it? I’m going to say yes. Not that special high end fun we’ve been having, but…. there was some good stuff in there, and also coupons (if you coupon). It’s ok. Now, how’s that for a truthful review! meh, but go for it. 🙂
note: the Walmart beauty box is seasonal, not monthly. January, June, March and September.
As for product sizes from all the subscription boxes… they are not full size products. However, there is enough product in there to try the latest glam and use it up before you become bored and distracted by the shiny and new. Am I the only one who does that? Probably not.
My recommendation: YES pick at least one subscription box and go with it. It’s a great beauty hack to try new products without paying for full price, full size items. Plus, it’s like getting a little gift in the mail, and we all need that every now and then, friend!
