What do you do when you have dropped the ball? Get back on the horse. Yay, mixed metaphors! Yes, and I’m baaaack! woo!
YARD SALES are simply the best! One of my favorite things to do.. as much for meeting new people as for finding that perfect treasure. I almost always meet someone very kind & interesting, usually the person having the sale. Today it was Sweet Lady Linda from Oklahoma, who was helping sell the estate of her sister, Terri. heartstrings… sigh. We’ve all been there in one way or another. Should I start posting pictures of yard sales, the people I meet, and the treasures I find? Literally, I define streets as being ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending on the quantity and quality of yard sales they procure. ha! Ok, let’s put a pin in that idea and circle back to it. Today was definitely a good street yard sale with good peeps!
TODAY’s Treasures:
$1 cookbooks with top secret recipes and once-a-month cooking. Sonic cherry limeade hacks are in my future. Top super secret recipes for less than a dollar.. about a penny per secret, can’t beat that!
What in the world is this exciting book! Thousands of recipes from telephone operators? Does anyone under the age of 30 even know what a telephone operator is? I remember listening in on the neighbors on our ‘party line’, growing up on the wind swept plains of Oklahoma in the house that my great great grandfather built (on land he purchased with cash from the Cherokee, no Sooners here!). Anywho… technically, ha, this cookbook was published in 1989, a very Mixed Blessings Year for me personally.. good.. got within 6 feet from Bon Jovi back stage AND Benjamin Orr gave me a HUG (wow I used to be so exciting, my kids don’t even know..!) .. and bad… still married to a bozo. So, mixed feelings about 1989 but who even looks at the copyright, am I right? IF you can find this book on amazon or anywhere, BUY it. It’s as thick as a phone book. So many recipes it’ll blow your mind.
Same song, second verse… At the back of this phone book (ha) is yet ANOTHER book! 1879 cookbook and what ails ya book. Full of treatments for everything from the sick room to cleaning rooms top to bottom (as if).
Different day, different yard sale.. but one of my most favorite treasures ever and deserves a shout out…
….a new favorite thing… a sweet little ceramic swan that I found for 25 cents at a yard sale! holding my free stash of sweeteners that accumulated in my purse.
